"From observation to discovery" Not only meteorological data fluctuate from one year to the next to a considerable extent around a mean, which is visible only over a long time. Also all other components of ecosystems swing more or less, which is mostly difficult to grasp and cannot be easily explained. How is it possible to distinguish natural fluctuations from actual trends ? Which indicators show us early and with a high probability the changes of our sensitive environment ? The answer to these questions can only be found by continuous long term observation.
„ Mires are islands of life“ Natural mires with their very specific characteristics and functions for the landscape are part of the variety of our environment. However they are strongly threatened — both by direct human influences and by intensive changes of the environment. The consequent protection, restoration and careful handling of these natural resources are one of the most important precepts of the current time ! |

- In cooperation with the Humboldt- University of Berlin, Prof. Zeitz:
WAMOS: A decision support system for the management of mires in the forest (2006-2009) - Concept for a touristic event adventure trail within the context of modern environmental education for the nature park Stechlin (land Brandenburg) (2006)
- Development of a mapping method for the analysis of the actual state of mires surrounded by forests (2002-2005)
- Selection of representative areas of large peatlands of the land Brandenburg for success control of the actual state and the effect of rewetting management measures (2001)
- Planning of the conservation management of an special subneutral mesotrophic mire in the Märkische Schweiz Nature Park (Federal state Brandenburg) (2004)
- Rewetting of drained and degraded peatlands under the conditions of agricultural use – reaction of soil and vegetation (1991-1997)
+ Monitoring
- Monitoring programme for the ecosystems of the three UNESCO biosphere reserves of Brandenburg as an international task and a functionally evaluation criterion for the MAB- committee of the UNESCO - Concept, Installation and following investigations (1997-2007)
- Development of practical moduls for the analysis of data collections of long term oberservation programs (2004-2006)
- Concept and installation of a programme for controlling the success of rewetting measures for mires in the Stechlin Nature Park (Federal state Brandenburg) within the context of an EU-Life project (2002,2004)
- Monitoring and success control programme for a nature protection area with heather and dried sandy grassland which was in former time a military area (2000-2001)
- Concept for a landscape monitoring for the Schorfheide-Chorin biosphere reserve (1998 - 1999)
