Master’s course in "Sustainable Tourism Management"

This course is internationally acknowledged and officially accredited and forms a link between economic and environmental sciences.   
This Master’s course aims at graduate students with an environmental or regional planning background. Graduates with degrees in social or economic sciences are admitted as well, provided that their previous studies had an interdisciplinary orientation. Applicants with other backgrounds can be admitted on a case by case basis. Spaces are limited to 40 participants per semester. 
The course is usually offered as a full-time programme to be completed within 4 semesters, including: 2 semesters of classroom lectures and seminars; 1 semester, which combines an internship and a project related to the internship; and 1 semester in which the Master´s thesis is written. The course does, however, also accept students who may need to combine their studies with a job and/or other obligations and who therefore may need to prolong their studies for longer than the usual 4 semesters. It is also possible for applicants who have previous practical experience in the area of sustainable tourism management to complete the programme in 3 semesters. Those who complete the course will be awarded with the internationally recognised “Master of Arts” degree.

The course is taught in a series of modules. This system of modules guarantees the integrity and interconnectedness of the course content. The system also provides international flexibility and ensures good cooperation between the two areas of study (economic and environmental sciences).The modules will be taught either in German or English, and each module covers a period of two or four weeks.

The master’s programme educates future tourism managers interested in innovations and long term perspectives. After completing the course they will have acquired the skills necessary to work for tourism industry associations, local and regional tourism organisations, innovative tourism enterprises, protected area authorities, regional planning departments, non-government organisations, international development cooperation, as well as in tourism consulting and in further education.
