Pressure pulse impregnation project

© HNEE Pressure Pulse

Presentation of the project

Native softwoods have a low biological durability. In order to increase durability, pressure impregnation is often necessary, especially for structural timber. However, the common process of pressure impregnation often leads to unsatisfactory impregnation results, especially due to stippling.

The aim of this project is to develop a new type of pressure impulse process and the associated plant technology for impregnation and pretreatment of the wood. In this process, pressure pulses are to be generated in the impregnation solution by means of the impulsive discharge of capacitive energy storage devices, which overcome the spot locks, thus achieving impregnability in the sapwood area. Further new fields of application for this novel technology are to be identified and developed in this course.
