German as a Foreign Language
The Language Centre supports international students and applicants preparing to enter university by offering a range of German language courses at different levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
On Wednesday afternoons, German modules are held for international HNEE students at levels A1 and B1 (winter semester) and A2 and B2 (summer semester). Current dates can be found here.
We also offer prospective students the opportunity to prepare for German-language studies at the HNEE by offering a pre-study German course B2/C1 which runs four days a week (for detailed information, see below).
Pre-Study German Course B2/C1
This course is primarily aimed at international applicants who need German at B2 or C1 level in order to be able to study in one of the German language degree programmes at our university. A prerequisite for the B2 course is existing German language skills at B1 level. For the C1 course, knowledge at B2 level is required.
Exchange students and international students can also take part if they have the capacity and the required language skills. They thus have the opportunity to effectively improve their German language skills to the desired level.
For exchange students with German language skills at B1 level who wish to stay at the HNEE for one year, there is the option of gaining language skills at B2 level in the winter semester, while at the same time taking one or two German language modules in the chosen degree programme. In the summer semester, as their second semester, only modules in the chosen degree programme are taken. The C1 course in the summer semester is aimed at exchange students who already have German language skills at B2 level. Following this, they can begin their studies or exchange semester in one of our German language degree programmes from the winter semester onwards.
International students can choose the intensive course as a facultative module or take it as an auditor. The prerequisite is an appropriate level of German (B1 or B2) and compatibility with the respective study programme. International students can apply by sending an enquiry to the Language Centre by e-mail: sprachenzentrum@hnee.de
