CombiMod - The development of a technology for the production of thermo-chemically modified woods for the purpose of series production of innovative wood products for outdoor use
Joint project

Subproject: Development of COMBIMOD processes and treatment formulations based on biopolymers
In this R&D project, the four cooperation partners involved will develop the combination of thermal and chemical modification processes in such a way that innovative and durable wood products can be manufactured in an environmentally friendly way without the use of wood preservatives.
The new technology will be systematically developed and built up so that local woods in Vietnam and Germany can be processed into COMBIMOD material. The innovation consists of a thermo-chemical process in which the use of biopolymers reduces process-related emissions and compensates for losses in mechanical strength. The aim is to develop a technology for pre- and post-treatment as well as new specific formulations for different wood species and components, which will enable the sustainable production of wood products for outdoor use.
