Wilhelm-Günther Vahrson

1996/1997 Habilitation for physical geography at the Humboldt University, Berlin, thesis about „characteristics, distribution and ecological impact of tropical rainstorms“.

since 1993 Professor for landscape sciences at the faculty of landscape use and nature protection of the University for Applied Sciences in Eberswalde, teaching and responsible for the following subjects: Soil science, hydrology, geomorphology, cartography and interpretation of Arial photographs; GIS. Research projects: landscape monitoring; monitoring of ecosystems in biosphere reserves; GIS for the management of the protected areas in the federal state of Brandenburg, Germany.

1986 - 1993 Visiting professor for physical geography at the Escuela de Ciencias Geogáficas de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Costa Rica; consultant for soil conservation (FAO); consultant for natural disasters (Comisión Nacional de Emergencias). Different research and extension projects.

1985 PhD in physical geography at the Freie Universität Berlin. Thesis: „Soil physical investigations and groundwater recharge in the Libyan desert”.

1982 - 1985 Scientist at the Freie Universität Berlin, specialising in desert geomorphology and ecology.

1975 - 1982 Study of physical geography and mathematics at the Freie Universität Berlin.

1962 - 1974 Elementary school and high school in Berlin (West).

Around 90 publications about desert geomorphology, tropical ecology, monitoring of ecosystems, monitoring of landscapes, applications of GIS for protected areas.
