International Day of Forests on the FAO Headquarter

IFSA at IDF

On the occasion of the "International Day of Forests" which takes place every year on March 21, IFSA International offered the opportunity to participate in a conference at the headquarters of the "Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations" (FAO) in Rome. We, Madeleine (Vice President 2018) and Peter (President 2018) took the opportunity and travelled there as representatives of our LC. On site we met about 20 other selected international IFSA members, where we got to know each other better during an aperitivo in one of the cosy bars of Rome on the eve of the conference. On March 21, the morning program began with a conference on how people can develop a better understanding of the forest and its meaning. A strong focus was placed on the young generation. Afterwards we held an IFSA internal workshop on the topic: "How can more people understand the importance of the forest? We collected our ideas and visions on the basis of a brainstorming concept. In the late afternoon we had an exclusive guided tour through the entire building complex, and the individual departments presented themselves. On the second day at the FAO, an full-day workshop was planned. During the "World Climate Simulation" we slipped into the roles of UN representatives and negotiated climate targets with each other in order to get global warming below 2°C. What sounds quite simple at first turned out to be hours of negotiation, as everyone took their role very seriously and wanted to retain or expand their position of power. We ended the evening together in the "Yellow Bar". A place which is regularly used by many FAO employees for relaxing in the evening (a real insider tip).

Even though it wasn't a huge and long conference, we gained a lot of great impressions, learned a lot and made valuable contacts.
