English Language Requirements for International Study Programmes
As our international study programmes (IFEM, FIT, FST, GCM, STM and MASESIN) include lectures, seminars and assignments in English, HNEE requires applicants for these programmes to prove English skills at the CEFR level B2. International certificates such as TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS and Cambridge English are accepted. In addition, a German school leaving certificate ("Abiturzeugnis") that has the remark English B2 (or higher) is accepted. For the international Master's degree programme BIOM, knowledge of English at the CEFR level C1 is required; the above-mentioned international certificates at C1 level are recognised.
Candidates who fail to provide an English certificate upon enrolment may be accepted on an interim basis and will have to provide evidence of their English skills by the end of the first semester. The Language Centre offers a TOEIC test session every December which is accompanied by a test preparation course during the winter semester.
For IFEM students, the English-language requirement may be waived upon proof of native or near-native English speaker proficiency. IFEM students must meet the requirements described on the application form and passing an oral test. Please note the important information provided on the back of the application form. The winter semester 2022/23 application deadline is October 25th, 2022. Please submit your completed application form and all required supporting documentation to the Language Centre by this date.
