Portugal 2018

In 2019, the South European Regional Meeting 2019 (SERM) was hosted by Portugal. The events took place in and around the city of Lisbon. The SERM 2019 was from April 20 to April 27, 2019. Julian and Livio, two members of our LC got the opportunity to participate at SERM 2019 to represent Eberswalde from Germany.

It was not only about the scientific exchange between forest students of different universities, but also about the cultural and personal exchange among each other and to contribute to the improvement of IFSA.

On the program over the different days, took place the opening ceremony at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia in Lisbon, where we could exchange with other students of the university. There was also a Peddy Paper in the centre of Lisbon and some IFSA workshops, among others in the Parque Escotista Pedra Amarela. The visit of Serra de Sintra, which was directly on the cliffs to the Atlantic Ocean, the westernmost point of Portugal. A visit to the National Park Tapada de Mafra, where we could see wild boars up close. The visit of the Palace of Mafra, as well as an insight into the cultivation of eucalyptus on a eucalyptus plantation. Furthermore, we visited an even larger forest fire area as well as a cork oak plantation where the important cork has been extracted over generations. In the end we visited the city of Cascais where we could relax on the beach and go swimming in the Atlantic Ocean, even if the water was rather cold.
