Project planning

The practical project of the IG-Zugpferde is intended to unite the various demands of the university group: On the one hand, to make horse work accessible to a wider public and to make it practically accessible for newcomers. It is also intended to create opportunities for research and theses in the field of socially and ecologically sustainable agriculture. The project plans to carry out planting and maintenance work on an agricultural area of approx. 0.75 ha in size beginning in autumn 2019. The cultivation should be done ecologically and with horses. The project will be planned and documented by the university group and supported by farmers in technical and work terms.

The first run of the project will conclude with a public potato harvest. After the run with a horse-drawn potato harvester, the potatoes are collected by hand. The helpers can then take part of the harvested potatoes with them. The remaining potatoes will be included in the catering as part of a group or university-wide event. The exact time of the harvest will depend on the selected variety and the growing conditions in 2020.
