Thermoholz - Ăśbersicht


Was ist Thermoholz?


Thermisch modifiziertes Holz, Thermoholz oder TMT ist Holz, das bei Temperaturen von üblicherweise über 160 °C bei reduzierter Sauerstoffkonzentration behandelt wurde und bei dem wesentliche Eigenschaften über den gesamten Holzquerschnitt dauerhaft verändert sind. Die verschiedenen Verfahren der thermischen Modifikation von Holz führen insbesondere zu einem Abbau von Hemicellulosen, jedoch finden auch Veränderungen an den anderen Hauptkomponenten des Holzes statt.


In der Pilotanlage an der Hochschule fĂĽr nachhaltige Entwicklung wird Thermoholz

  • in einem ein- oder mehrstufigen thermischen Behandlungsverfahren
  • bei Temperaturen von 170°C bis 250°C
  • ĂĽber einen Zeitraum von 2 bis 48 Stunden
  • unter Sauerstoffabschluss

hergestellt.

Das Verfahren wurde zum Patent angemeldet und durch ein Gebrauchsmuster geschĂĽtzt.



Wie verändert sich das Holz bei thermischer Behandlung?

  • Das Holz verfärbt sich, je nach Behandlungsintensität, dunkel.
  • Die Fähigkeit zur Wasseraufnahme und -abgabe reduziert sich dauerhaft.

  • Es treten Veränderungen bei Form- und Dimensionsstabilität sowie mechanischen Eigenschaften auf.
  • Das Holz wird resistenter gegenĂĽber holzzerstörenden Pilzen und Insekten.

  • Das Holz versprödet.
  • Die Biegefestigkeit verringert sich.
