Strategic internationalisation
The Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNEE) pursues an internationalisation strategy that strengthens internationality as a cross-sectional task in teaching, research and administration. It is geared towards the global challenges of the sustainability community and integrates internationalisation into the university structures.
The strategy focuses on the following areas of action and objectives:
Strengthening international networks and cooperation
HNEE is positioning itself as a globally visible and well-connected university by strategically expanding its international networks and collaborations. The targeted development of strategic partnerships sharpens the international profile, while central systems for recording and systematising collaborations increase the overview and effectiveness. International partners are actively involved in research, teaching and exchange formats in order to strengthen the global transfer of knowledge and improve the quality of education for all university members.
Promotion of mobility and intercultural skills
International mobility and intercultural skills are integral components of education and further development at HNEE. The introduction of mobility windows in degree programmes makes it easier for students to spend time abroad, while new double and joint degree programmes promote exchange at an academic level. Accompanying language and intercultural training programmes optimally prepare students, teaching staff and employees for international experiences. At the same time, sustainable mobility concepts are being developed to actively address the conflict of objectives between climate protection and international exchange.
Design of an international campus
A vibrant, international campus is the basis for a diverse and inclusive university culture. HNEE strengthens the welcoming culture through bilingual communication and comprehensive support structures for international guests and university members. Measures such as the targeted integration of international students and staff or the introduction of a mentoring programme facilitate orientation and networking on site. At the same time, cooperation with regional partners is being intensified in order to transfer intercultural and social skills to the region and increase HNEE's attractiveness as a place to study and work.
Digitalisation as a driver of internationalisation
Digitalisation opens up new opportunities to drive forward the internationalisation of HNEE. Hybrid teaching formats and digital mobility programmes expand access to international exchange opportunities and promote intercultural collaboration. Digital systems for managing mobilities and collaborations optimise administrative processes and increase efficiency. A targeted reorientation of online communication strengthens the approach to international target groups and facilitates student recruitment and exchange with international partners.
Development of the internationalisation strategy
As part of the HNEE Internationalisation 2.0 project funded by the DAAD → HAW.International programme, the university's internationalisation strategy was updated in a two-year participatory process and was successfully adopted by the HNEE Senate on 22.11.2023. The development of this strategy was characterised by an inclusive approach that incorporated the diversity of perspectives, ideas and experiences of all members of the HNEE community. Through workshops, discussions and continuous feedback, a dynamic vision for the future internationalisation of our university was developed. We would like to thank the entire university community for their dedicated support and cooperation in the implementation of this project.
The adopted strategy will guide the internationalisation of the university in the coming years. It forms the foundation for broader academic networking, international partnerships and an even stronger global positioning of HNEE.
