Pyrolysis for Construction Elements (PyroForCE)
Subproject 2: Generation of pyrolysis layer and material characterization
Joint project with the UdK Berlin
The aim of the "PyroForCE" cooperation project is to develop a new type of wood facade cladding in urban multi-storey construction.
A layer of carbon is created on wood materials of various textures by burning the surface. This process, called pyrolysis, is intended to make the wood more resistant to parasites and fungal attack and to reduce flammability. Issues of flammability and fire behavior of wood are very important for its use for facades in urban contexts.
The second part of this project is concerned with the further development of the pyrolysis system created in PyroForCE 1.0, the development of a construction site system and the more in-depth investigation of the properties of the pyrolysis layer. Here, the main focus is on the stabilization and preservation of the carbon layer itself.
