New benches for the circular hiking trail - joint project for the region

The Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNEE) is supporting a regionally anchored project: New seating for the popular circular hiking trail "Around the Schorfheide" is currently being created in the HNEE carpentry workshop - built in cooperation with local partners and made from local wood.

The 135-kilometre circular hiking trail, which begins and ends in Eberswalde, was voted the third most beautiful hiking trail in Germany in 2022. Now it is becoming even more inviting: eight new benches invite you to linger - made from regional oak wood from Schönholz and built by the "woodworms", a project group at Zainhammer Mühle in collaboration with HNEE.

The idea was initiated by the circular hiking trail tourism working group, which brings together committed stakeholders from Eberswalde and the surrounding communities. Many people are pulling together to realise the project: the building yards of the participating municipalities are installing the benches at their respective locations, while the project is being financed by the municipalities themselves and the business development company WITO Barnim. In future, the benches will be located at the following stations along the circular hiking trail:

  • City of Eberswalde
  • Municipality of Schorfheide
  • Amt Biesenthal-Barnim
  • Britz-Chorin-Oderberg district
  • Municipality of Joachimsthal (via WiTo)
  • Municipality of Liepe (two locations, one of which via WiTo)
  • Zainhammer Mill

The project shows once again how strongly the region is connected - and how sustainable development, education, craftsmanship and community involvement can be seen and experienced together.
