"Mowing value with mowing value": Conference on the communication and marketing of sheep farming at the HNEE

Under the title "Mähwert mit Mährwert", the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNEE) is hosting a conference on the social benefits of sheep farming for the first time on 12 November 2025.

The aim is to develop strategies together with the conference participants on how the ecological, cultural and social added value of near-natural sheep farming in Germany can be made more visible and marketable.

Sheep not only contribute to the production of wool and meat, but also perform important tasks in landscape and flood protection, promote biodiversity and characterise the cultural landscape. These and other services have often been little recognised by the public.

The one-day event brings together shepherds, processors, traders, researchers and interested citizens. In addition to specialist presentations by communication experts and practitioners, the programme offers best practice examples from agriculture and marketing as well as interactive formats such as peer-to-peer consultation. The aim is to provide suggestions on how to tell the stories of sheep farming in a way that reaches consumers, politicians and society.

Programme highlights:

  • Specialist presentations on communication and marketing
  • Practical examples from agriculture and marketing
  • Interactive workshops and peer counselling
  • Strategies for public relations and addressing target groups

The conference will take place on the HNEE city campus. Registration is now open.
