Resilience in organic vegetable farming – development and testing of strategies and innovations through practical research
ROBUSTGemuese is a Germany-wide joint project in which practitioners, scientists and consultants work together in regional and thematic practical research networks to find solutions to the challenges of organic outdoor vegetable cultivation.
The aim is to jointly develop innovative approaches along the entire value chain and strengthen the resilience of farms.
CropCat: Upscaling minor crops with institutional catering
The transformation of the food system requires both a diversification of farming systems towards more agroecological approaches and the further development of downstream value chains, business models and consumption patterns. Community catering is considered to be a major lever for transformation. The CropCat project therefore aims to further develop the cultivation of new and underutilised crops and approaches to increase the consumption of these crops in communal catering.
Organic beet sugar from the region – Uckerzucker
Organically produced beet sugar competes on the market with cheaper organic cane sugar. Its special processing qualities need to be explained to both consumers and processors. The Uckerzucker project analyses the requirements and interest of food processing companies in regional organic beet sugar and the needs and interests of consumers in the consumption of sugar and sugary organic foods in order to develop and test a communication concept for regional organic beet sugar in collaboration with regional companies.
Locally produced chickpeas in food value chains – the example of the Berlin/Brandenburg model region
The aim of the CiceRegio project is to use new value chains in the Berlin/Brandenburg metropolitan region as examples to show how regionally produced chickpeas (Cicer arietinum) can contribute to human nutrition in the future. Stakeholders from production, processing, consulting, research, education and other multipliers are working together in a continuous, co-creative exchange to develop viable solutions for establishing chickpeas in the region. The interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research approach generates systemic and application-oriented knowledge about the cultivation, processing, quality requirements and market potential of regional chickpeas.
NahWertVoll – Organic regional value creation and healthy nutrition in communal catering – sustainable nutritional change using the example of student catering in East Brandenburg
In the NahWertVoll project – organic regional value creation and healthy nutrition in communal catering – sustainable nutritional change using the example of student catering in East Brandenburg, the Studierendenwerk Ost:Brandenburg and the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development are working to make catering in university canteens healthier and more sustainable. The aim of the project is to identify ways of promoting healthy eating among students, while the student services organisation acts as a catalyst for the development of regional organic value chains.
Organic Advice Network
The EU project OrganicAdviceNetwork operates within the framework of the EU's goal of expanding organic farming to 25% of agricultural land by 2030. Partner teams from more than 14 countries have joined forces to establish an EU-wide network for organic farming advice.
Management and biomass utilisation of wet fens: network of model and demonstration projects in Brandenburg's fen regions
The project Management and Biomass Utilisation of Wet Lowland Moors: Network of Model and Demonstration Projects in Moorland Regions of Brandenburg (WetNetBB) will work with agricultural businesses in typical lowland moor locations to achieve water levels that preserve peat and implement exemplary methods for land management and biomass utilisation. The aim of WetNetBB is to highlight the unique synergy potential of moors for climate, soil, water and biodiversity protection as well as for regional value creation, in order to generate acceptance and interest in sustainable moorland use in the selected regions and beyond
Preparing Multi-Actor Projects in a Co-creative Way
Agriculture and forestry are facing major challenges. Therefore, farms, together with companies in the value chains, for example, are dependent on developing, testing and disseminating innovative solutions. The concept of cooperation for innovation is seen as a promising approach in which the participants work together as equals and join forces to develop the necessary adjustments. The first step in such an innovation partnership is to design an innovation project.
Inwert Ecosystem Sheep – Capitalising on the ecosystem services provided by extensive sheep farming
The central research question in the project ‘Inwert Ökosystem Schaf – Inwertsetzung der Ökosystemleistungen der extensiven Schafhaltung’ (Valuing the ecosystem services of extensive sheep farming) is: How can the social benefits of extensive sheep farming be marketed? The resources lamb and sheep meat, tourist services and sheep's wool are considered. The project focuses on target group analyses and market research to identify the potential and obstacles for valuing natural sheep farming and to develop solutions.
CC 4 Regiofleisch – Value chains 4.0: Setting up a click & collect system for regional organic meat
In the project ‘CC 4 Regiofleisch – Value Chains 4.0: Development of a Click & Collect System for Regional Organic Meat’ (CC 4 Regiofleisch), regional agricultural and processing companies, wholesalers and organic retailers are working on the development of new business models for marketing fresh organic meat and sausage products in the Berlin/Brandenburg metropolitan region. The aim of the project is to provide scientific support to various economic partners along the meat value chain for the development and testing of a prototype for an online platform for regional organic meat and sausage products and to provide information relevant to the process. The project is part of the WIR! alliance region 4.0.
EU-Farmbook: interactive knowledge reservoir
The future of innovation in agriculture and forestry will depend, among other things, on improved (digital) exchange of new methods and practical solutions. EU FarmBook is being created as an EU-wide, freely accessible knowledge platform for practical application and consulting. Education and training, applied science, administration and politics are also expected to benefit. HNEE is responsible for developing guidelines for other project groups and initiatives so that they can use their results to create attractive information sheets, brochures, videos or learning modules. These materials will be uploaded to the EU FarmBook platform, where they can be found using the search function and downloaded in various EU languages.
Social farming for older people
The FarmElder project focuses in particular on older people as the target group for social farming activities in the EU. The project partners from five countries aim to identify commonalities and shared challenges, highlight inspiring examples and develop information and training materials.
AnpaG - Group counselling for sustainable agriculture
AnpaG – stands for tackling the issue; advancing the transformation of agriculture towards sustainability.
At AnpaG, we contribute to this by testing collegial group counselling as a methodological format for agricultural counselling. Through events such as field days and counsellor days, we help Brandenburg farmers, counsellors and researchers to network with each other. We are also developing an information website about agricultural advisory services in Brandenburg, which will contribute to greater visibility for advisors and their expertise.
Competence and practical research network for the further development of nutrient management in organic farming
Everyone is pulling together here: in the nationwide project Competence and Practical Research Network for the Further Development of Nutrient Management in Organic Farming (NutriNet), practitioners, consultants and scientists are working together to address the question of how nutrient management in organic farming can be improved. The NutriNet website collects information on nutrient management in general and results from practical trials throughout the network.
