Student Initiatives

In addition to the elected interest groups, there are numerous initiatives and active groups at HNE Eberswalde that are happy to welcome new faces.

The list is constantly being expanded. The respective initiatives and groups are responsible for the content.

Forest | Hunting | Nature conservation

Working Group for Natural Forest Management - University Group

We offer an interface to forestry practice by organising numerous field trips and events on the topic of "nature-based forestry". The networking of young people from different sectors and across state and national borders offers exciting prospects for career opportunities. In general, however, it is above all fun to experience something together!

If you would like to take part, please contact us at anw@hnee.de.

Agriculture | Emancipation | Antifascism

Young Farmers' Working Group (jAbL)

In the Young Farmers' Working Group (jAbL), young people from the agricultural and farming community organise themselves in the fight against the capitalist destruction of our livelihoods and for a just, diverse and sustainable agriculture. We are an independent part of the global small farmers' movement La Via Campesina and its German member organisation AbL.

In the Eberwalde local group, people from various degree programmes, bakers and practitioners meet every fortnight for a plenary session at the Thinkfarm. The meetings are used for networking, planning activities and events at the university and in the surrounding area. We want to share our own experiences in agriculture, critically examine the content of our studies and educate ourselves and others. For us as co-creators of a sustainable agricultural and food system, sustainable education also includes dealing with food sovereignty, agroecology, queer-feminist and (neo-)colonial perspectives on agriculture.

If you would also like to engage with agricultural policy issues and become active, please come along to our next meeting or send us an email to junge-AbL@hnee.de.

Growing & shaping together

Campus garden

Food connects us - but in our globalised world, knowledge of this is often lost. With the campus garden, we are creating a lively place of exchange at HNEE where students, staff and lecturers can garden, learn and enjoy together.

Since the first beds were planted in spring 2014, our initiative has developed steadily and is now an integral part of campus life. Inspired by urban gardening, we promote sustainable, creative and self-determined action.

Our principles:

Open to all - everyone is welcome!
Sustainable gardening - permaculture and closed cycles
Community & trust - non-hierarchical, respectful collaboration
Learning & self-empowerment - more than just studying

Whether wild herb meadows, raised beds or fragrant herb spirals - the campus garden invites you to join in. Come along and grow with us!

Die Studierendeninitiative Campusgarten an der HNEE schafft einen nachhaltigen Begegnungsort, an dem Studierende gemeinsam gärtnern, lernen und die Biodiversität auf dem Campus fördern.
Zero Waste | Food

foodsharing Eberswalde

We are a colourful group of over 100 active members who save food from the bin every day in Eberswalde. Our motto: "Share instead of throw away!" We don't waste anything - the rescued food is utilised ourselves, privately or distributed via our Fairteiler on the HNE city campus. Feel free to drop by!

In addition to around 1,200 collections a year from 14 businesses, we also take part in many events, run an Instagram channel and meet every six weeks for a plenary session. Since March 2023, we can also proudly announce that Eberswalde is now a foodsharing city! Together with the city council, we are developing exciting projects and events. Become part of our mission and let's make Eberswalde sustainable and delicious together!

Sport

University Sport e.V.

The Förderverein Hochschulsport e. V. was founded in 2001 with the aim of improving the range of sports on offer in the city and providing a cost-effective way of doing sport and keeping fit.

The range of sports on offer at the university is compact and clearly organised. However, the reasons for this are relatively plausible. Eberswalde is one of the smallest universities in Germany. Fewer students also means fewer people doing sport. This in turn means that it is difficult to offer unusual sports because you can't get enough people together. Another reason is the limited range of sports facilities in Eberswalde.

Many sports, such as karate or tai chi, also require instruction. If someone can be found to offer them for fun, we can somehow find a hall.

Der Hochschulsport engagiert sich auch beim HNEE-Gesundheitstag.
International

Horizons e.V.

The Horizonte e.V. association was founded on 22 September 2000 by students and lecturers at HNE Eberswalde with the intention of serving as a platform for intercultural exchange for Eberswalde's citizens and students. One of the main aims of the association is to actively involve foreign students in student life. This is achieved by organising excursions to the surrounding area, theme parties, intercultural education at schools and much more. The German Horizonte members are often on hand to help foreign students with questions about studying or living in Eberswalde and thus contribute to their fond memories of their time spent studying in Eberswalde.

International Forestry | intercultural exchange | global networking

IFSA Eberswalde

IFSA (International Forestry Students' Association) is a student organisation that networks forestry students at a global level. We operate at a local level, but at the same time we are in dialogue with students from all over the world. We organise lectures on exciting extracurricular topics, hold barbecues and meet regularly to exchange ideas. Would you like to join us? Send us an e-mail to ifsa@hnee.de!

Networking | Hunting opportunities | Lectures

Hunting meeting

We are the student initiative Jagdtreff. Through us, you can get to know students and residents of Eberswalde who enjoy hunting or are interested in the subject.

We are also the contact point for hunting opportunities. Information about group hunts and driven hunts can be found on our mailing list.

We meet once a month to discuss hunting-related topics and take part in various activities together, e.g. we listen to specialist lectures, go on field trips or prepare game dishes together.

Come along to our next meeting - even if you don't have a hunting licence - we look forward to seeing you!

Jagdtag in Brandenburg
Encounter | Cuisine for all

Schmatzkammer e.V.

We, the Schmatzkammer, create a meeting place where people can talk and make things. Here, people's own creativity and the courage to realise it are encouraged.
The rooms are open to everyone. These include a large kitchen where a "kitchen for all" is organised every fortnight, a workshop where all kinds of handicrafts, sewing and screen printing can be done, as well as a photo lab and a workshop room. Do you want to help shape open spaces in our city or simply need space to realise your projects? Then get in touch with us!

Notes

A student initiative is a formalised association of enrolled HNEE students with the following characteristics:

  • the initiative is organised and led by at least six students
  • membership is openly accessible
  • the initiative pursues a common purpose
  • there are regular meetings
  • the initiative is often organised as a university group or registered association (e.V.).

Would you like to set up a student initiative and present yourself on the website? Then please use our → form (login required) and send it completed to University Communications at hochschulkommunikation(at)hnee.de.

An application or extension of a student initiative is valid for one year. At the end of each winter semester (by 1 April at the latest), re-registration must take place and all changes to existing initiatives must be forwarded to University Communications by those responsible for the initiative. If no re-registration is received from those responsible, the entries are automatically hidden and the e-mail account is deactivated.
