Wilmersdorf Teaching and Research Station

The Gut Wilmersdorf Teaching and Research Station offers a unique opportunity for students, researchers, farmers, and external experimenters to conduct practice-oriented research in organic arable farming and crop production, agroecology, grassland ecology, agricultural engineering, and soil and landscape science. Since 2005, innovative research projects and applied teaching have been carried out on approximately 4 hectares of arable land to promote the transfer of knowledge between science and practice.

Practice-oriented research and teaching for students, researchers and farmers

Unlike traditional experimental or research stations, where research is the main focus, the Wilmersdorf Teaching and Research Station combines scientific research with practice-oriented teaching. The station is affiliated with the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development and serves as a bridge between academic education and agricultural practice. Here, students and researchers can deepen theoretical concepts as well as carry out practical experiments and field research.

In addition, the Wilmersdorf Teaching and Research Station is a central hub for specialist events and network meetings. In cooperation with the → Innovation Centre for Sustainable Food Systems, it forms part of a regional network of farmers that promotes the exchange of knowledge and experience. Alongside stationary trials, practice-oriented “on-farm” trials are conducted, enabling innovative approaches to be implemented directly in agricultural settings.

The Wilmersdorf Teaching and Research Station is the only organic-certified research station in Brandenburg and provides a valuable platform for anyone interested in sustainable agriculture and organic farming methods. Work here is carried out according to the highest organic standards, and experiments are conducted exclusively within the field of organic arable and crop farming.

Our research focuses on the following areas: agrobiodiversity, legume cultivation, climate adaptation strategies, biostimulants to enhance plant resilience, biodiversity, and the integration of nature conservation services in arable and crop production.

What happens on the Arable Land?

The trial site is divided into six crop rotation plots:

Clover grass - Winter wheat - Winter rye - Grain legumes (peas, lupins) - Spring cereals (oats) - Sugar beet

Each plot covers 0.46 hectares (length: 158 m; width: 29.5 m) and is managed according to a defined crop rotation. Variety and soil cultivation trials are integrated into the management of each plot.

Students gain insight into the work carried out at LFS Wilmersdorf through the modules Crop Production Systems, Agricultural Engineering and Soil Landscape and Material Balance.
