Studying for the future – with a practical focus, a positive attitude and social relevance
As one of the first universities in Germany, HNEE established sustainability as an overarching guiding principle in its teaching, research, knowledge transfer and university operations more than 15 years ago, thereby providing a significant impetus for social transformation.
The range of degree programmes comprises 23 Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in fields such as nature conservation, forestry, organic farming and food systems, sustainable economics, wood engineering and sustainable tourism management. Small groups, practical teaching methods and close collaboration with partners from industry and society provide the ideal conditions for successful completion of studies and entry into the workforce.
Stereotype and reality
When people talk about sustainability, they often encounter oversimplified images and stereotypes. Even at HNEE, there are many preconceptions about how students think and live.
With a touch of humour, a dash of self-deprecation and a clear shift in perspective, we focus on real alumni and personal stories that demonstrate just how diverse sustainability-related life and career paths are today.

FAQ
What is the HIT?
The University Information Day (HIT) provides information about our range of degree programmes, the university itself and the student life that awaits you here. You can chat to lecturers, students and graduates, ask questions and find out more.
When and where is the HIT taking place?
All course presentations will take place on the City Campus. Information stands will be available on both the City Campus and the Forest Campus.
The HIT starts at 10 am and transitions into the campus festival from 5 pm. We begin with the first presentations at 10.15 am.
How do I sign up?
You can register on this page. Once you’ve registered, you’ll receive a link to the relevant meeting room for online participation, or details of the venue for the in-person presentation.
If you drop by spontaneously without registering in advance, we have QR codes in the buildings where you can easily register on the spot.
Who is the HIT aimed at?
Our programme is primarily aimed at prospective students and their accompanying adults. However, current students can also network and exchange ideas here, or find out about the numerous initiatives that will be presenting themselves. For alumni, the Alumni Management team is offering the chance to meet up again at the “Unterm-Stamm-Tisch” and chat with students and prospective students. We also present our apprenticeship vacancies to anyone still looking for a place. Representatives from companies can speak to contact persons from the dual study programmes and from on-site projects. And we’re delighted to welcome anyone who simply wants to come and see what we do here at the university.
Are there any places to eat?
Yes, the canteen is open. There’s also the Trainee Café, as well as savoury and sweet treats at various stalls. Drinks are available from the General Student Committee (AStA) at the beer cart, amongst other places.
