The project Domestication of Non-Timber Forest Products and Diversification of Cocoa Systems in the Lake Bosomtwe Biosphere Reserve, Ghana aims to improve the ecological resilience and livelihoods of local people through multifunctional forestry by researching and demonstrating various locally adapted agroforestry options for the Lake Bosomtwe Biosphere Reserve (LBBR) in Ghana.
The project will focus in particular on creating understanding and assessing the potential of integrating non-timber forest products (NTFPs) into cocoa plantations, other (woody) production systems and reforestation plantations with high potential for value chain development, and evaluating these from a socio-economic and ecological perspective. In addition, NTFP integration will be demonstrated to local farmers and concepts for expanding the approaches at the level of integrated agriculture in biosphere reserves will be developed. The creation of knowledge and capacity building in the areas described above are an important part of the project. Implementation will take place in close cooperation with national scientific partners and local and regional partners from the field.
