Senate of the HNEE
The Senate is the highest self-governing body of HNEE. It elects the President and is composed of elected representatives of professors, students and staff. The President is a member of the Senate and serves as its chair, but does not hold voting rights. The Senate addresses strategic matters and the ongoing development of the university. Its responsibilities include the adoption of fundamental regulations and central statutes, as well as decisions on appointment proposals for professorships.
Responsibilities of the Senate
- Decisions on fundamental matters relating to the organisation of degree programmes and teaching
- Adoption and amendment of the University’s foundational regulations and other statutes
- Decisions on fundamental issues relating to research and the promotion of early career researchers
- Decisions on the university's development plan
- Decisions on proposals for the appointment and confirmation of professors
- Election of the President on the recommendation of the selection committee, as well as the removal of the President from office
- Oversight of the President, in particular in relation to the accountability report, the formal discharge of the President, and the draft budget
- Decisions on the establishment of joint organisational units with other universities in accordance with section 71(4) of the Brandenburg Higher Education Act (BbgHG)

Senate meetings are generally held on the fourth Wednesday of each month. University members can access all key information, including meeting dates and minutes, via the internal portal.
