To mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, we warmly invite you to the events taking place on 25 November 2026 at the HNEE. Together with the Barnim Women’s Network and other partners, we wish to raise awareness of violence against women and take a clear stand against it. 

10.15–11.00 am | Lecture Theatre 01.103 POWER LEADS TO ABUSE – Talk with Dr Lena Marbacher 

Journalist and author Dr Lena Marbacher will use examples from politics, academia, the police, sport and other areas of society to illustrate how the abuse of power arises, which structures facilitate it, and what can be done to change this. 

11.00 am | In front of Building 1, Friedrich-Ebert-Straße Joint flag-raising ceremony 

This will be followed by the traditional flag-raising ceremony, through which the HNEE, together with the Barnim Women’s Network and other partners, sends a visible message against violence against women. Our President, Prof. Dr Matthias Barth, will deliver a welcoming address. The flag-raising ceremony will be accompanied by music from the Eberswalde-based singer and songwriter Vera Thaxton, whose music explores themes including boundary-crossing and self-determination.
