Dr Fabio Weiss receives dissertation award from Leuphana University Lüneburg

The award went to Fabio Weiss for his dissertation entitled "Long-term trends in carabid communities of old low-land beech forests in the context of severe drought", which, with its high methodological and ecological excellence, provides new insights into insect mortality and the effects of climate change and other human influences on insect populations.

The doctoral thesis was written as part of a collaborative doctoral position between the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development and Leuphana University – and is an impressive example of excellent research in a supportive, family-friendly academic environment.

Fabio Weiss, who now works at the Cawthron Institute in Nelson, New Zealand, was part of the first cohort of the Biosphere Reserves Institute (BRI) graduate programme at HNEE. The background to this is the cooperation agreement between the Biosphere Reserve Institute (BRI) and Leuphana University. Prof. Dr. Andreas Linde was the supervisor of the thesis at HNEE.

Congratulations on this well-deserved award!
