International Weeks Against Racism at HNEE

This year, HNEE is once again organising a varied programme for the International Weeks Against Racism. The nationwide action weeks offer an important opportunity for everyone to learn about racism, take action against it and help create an open, diverse university community.

Lecture for the exhibition opening "Life without Racism 2.0" (Alliance Against Racism)
Tuesday, 17 March 2026, 12:00-13:00, Lecture Hall 01.103, Building 1

The opening lecture during the lunch break offers an opportunity to discuss the topic of racism, engage in conversation with one another and learn more about the process of creating the exhibition.

The individual is the focus of "Life without Racism 2.0". The exhibition draws on experiences that people affected by racism encounter on a daily basis, thus drawing attention to the (structurally entrenched) unequal treatment and discrimination of people. The portraits encourage us to see each person as an individual and to treat them with the same empathy and openness as we would treat anyone else. The photos stand for respectful coexistence in society.

Stammtischkämpfer*innen seminar – workshop against right-wing and discriminatory slogans (Standing up against racism)
Wednesday, 18 March 2026, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., City Campus, room to be announced after registration at antira(at)hnee.de

We all know the situation: in a discussion with colleagues, a conversation with your aunt or at a barbecue with your sports club, comments are made that leave us speechless. Later, we get annoyed and think that we would have liked to have spoken up, contradicted them, and not just let the right-wing slogans stand. This is where we want to start and enable people to overcome that moment of shock, take a stand and make it clear: we will no longer accept this!

The Stammtischkämpfer*innen seminars show us ways to act that help us counter right-wing and racist slogans. One thing is clear: the Stammtisch is everywhere: at the supermarket checkout, on the playground, on the train or in the working group. But we are also everywhere, and we can send a signal by speaking out, taking a clear stand and engaging in lively discussions, influencing the mood in our environment and setting an example for undecided people.

Training course "Why racism concerns us all" (Maria Seidel, HNEE)
Tuesday, 24 March 2026, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., City Campus, room to be announced after registration at antira(at)hnee.de

Racism is a reality of life and shapes the everyday lives of many people. It structures social coexistence and has a real impact on access to resources, opportunities for participation and health. No one is outside these racist conditions. People who do not experience racism often benefit unconsciously or unintentionally from privileged structures.

This training course invites participants to examine racism and their own involvement in it, to explore whiteness and the privileges that come with it, to understand racism and its effects, and to develop practical courses of action, particularly in their own work context.

In consultation with your supervisor, participation can count as working time.

Seminar "Racism and Anti-Semitism" (Mideast Freedom Forum Berlin)
Wednesday, 25 March 2026, 1:00-5:00 p.m., City Campus, room to be announced after registration at antira(at)hnee.de

In this seminar, participants will acquire a basic understanding of anti-Semitism and racism criticism. Anti-Semitism is often described as a sub-form of racism, which obscures the fundamental difference between the two. Both are based on projections, dehumanisation and discrimination, among other things, but they also have specific characteristics. We will therefore begin with a historical and systematic examination of the differences and similarities between these potentially deadly ideologies. In this context, we will also look at the conflicts in the Middle East and in Germany's migrant society, as well as forms of resistance and perspectives of those affected. Participants will learn how to recognise racist and anti-Semitic incidents and how to take effective action against them.
