Studio visit to rbb Brandenburg aktuell – Why International Women's Day remains important

Is International Women's Day still necessary today? Jenny Pöller, Central Equal Opportunities Officer at HNEE, discussed this question on the Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg radio programme Brandenburg aktuell.

Jenny Pöller's clear answer: "Yes, absolutely!"

International Women's Day reminds us that equal rights, equal opportunities and equal participation are still not a given. Especially in times when anti-feminist positions are becoming louder and a shift to the right in society is noticeable, equality remains a central democratic task.

As a university for sustainable development, HNEE stands for social transformation in addition to the central themes of sustainability. Sustainability needs equality – and equality needs visibility, commitment and structural change. Parity is a crucial key to this.

The discussion in the studio showed Jenny Pöller that the issue of equality is important to many people: "Whether in politics, science, business or social decision-making processes – we need equal participation of women in all areas. Only when women are equally represented everywhere can equality become a reality. And that is precisely why International Women's Day is still needed – as an opportunity to highlight progress and at the same time clearly identify where change is still needed."
