Climate and Peatland Protection – Investment
01/2024 - 12/2027
Project volume:200.000 EURO
Competence field:Ecology, Sustainable ecosystem management, Sustainable, site-adapted production systems
Cooperation:Strategic cooperation, Practical partnership
Funding partner:Federal funding
As part of the project Scientific Support for Projects and Measures under the State of Brandenburg’s Funding Guideline “Climate and Peatland Protection – Investment”, scientific support is provided to recipients of funding under the State of Brandenburg’s “Climate and Peatland Protection – Investment” funding guideline. The aim of the guideline is to support measures that transition land use on organic soils to climate-friendly, peatland-sensitive management practices.
Depending on the selected funding priority, the scientific support includes ecological monitoring of the areas concerned (soil, water and vegetation), investigations into the effects of using peatland-adapted machinery on soil physical properties, and economic monitoring of peatland-adapted management practices.
This tall sedge marsh was developed from a heavily matted reedbed dominated by common reed through two rounds of mulching and extensive summer grazing with Galloway cattle in just one year.
Very wide tyres with an automatic tyre pressure regulation system: this tractor has been adapted for managing (very) wet fen soils with low load-bearing capacity.
