The Pure-MDF-Edge feasibility study aims to improve the recycling rate of waste wood materials by enabling veneered or coated medium-density fibreboard (MDF) with ABS edge banding to be recovered largely as secondary raw materials through innovative fractionation.

Achieving this requires, among other things, a practical separation process designed for operational efficiency, based on a prototype waste wood sorting system using TOMRA technology. Combined with subsequent processing steps and suitable extrusion and injection moulding processes for the recovered ABS fraction, the project seeks to develop an industry-oriented recycling solution for the separated wood fibre and plastic materials. This will help ensure comprehensive material recovery for all associated components, such as those used in furniture products.
