Forest Ecosystems under Climate Change – Dependence of Productivity and Climate Protection Performance on Regulating Ecosystem Functions and Recommendations for Ecosystem-Based Adaptation of Forest Management – ProÖkoForst

Project volume:654.841 EURO
Competence field:Sustainable forest management, Sustainable ecosystem management

Sub-project 1: Project Coordination and Microclimate
The aim of the ProÖkoForst project is to contribute to the development of an ecosystem-based approach to adapting forest management to climate change. Strengthening the resilience of forest ecosystems over the long term is intended to sustainably safeguard the functionality and performance of forests, and thus their contribution to climate protection, particularly in the face of increasingly extreme weather events. The specific aim of the sub-project is to quantify how the microclimatic regulatory capacity of forest stands, in conjunction with management and nature conservation measures, affects forest productivity, the associated climate protection performance and vulnerability to climate change, and to derive corresponding recommendations for climate-change-adapted forest management. The project thus contributes to sustainability, climate protection and the bioeconomy.
