The aim of the project Site-Specific Optimised Nutrient Management in Arable Farming (TONIA) is to develop algorithms for calculating site-specific fertiliser application rates. To this end, high-resolution 3D soil texture maps are being generated using state-of-the-art sensor technology. These maps are used both as a basis for subdividing arable fields and for calculating fertiliser application rates. Alongside the high-resolution soil maps, yield estimates are another key component of precision fertilisation. These are calculated using satellite data and complex process-based models.
The Geophilus system generates high-resolution 3D soil texture maps using an algorithm for the layer-by-layer resolution of geoelectric data.
To calibrate and validate the measurement system, soil samples were taken using an electric drill and sent to laboratories.
