Electricity is the most effective form of energy for heating the floor of a flat, holiday home or room as part of a retrofit heating system, making it the right choice. However, electrically heated floor coverings currently exist only as patented concepts; there is no such system on the market. Instead, only heating films can be installed beneath floor coverings, making the heating system slow to respond and less energy-efficient.
In future, however, global demand for electric heating systems powered by renewable energy sources is expected to increase, particularly for floor heating. The idea behind the present STEP research and development project is to develop a scalable, electrically heated parquet flooring system that simplifies a complex surface-heating concept while matching high-quality laminate or parquet in terms of cost and ease of use.
