MoorFutures are regional climate protection certificates for the voluntary offsetting of greenhouse gas emissions, generated through local peatland rewetting projects. To establish a portfolio of project areas in Brandenburg that meets the strict requirements of the MoorFutures standard, comprehensive preliminary investigations are required. These investigations are carried out in close collaboration between the Brandenburg Land Agency and the Moor – Grassland – Monitoring working group at HNEE.
The project comprises several phases:
since 2025:
Project leader: Prof. Dr Christian Klingenfuß
Duration and project budget: 01/2025 – 12/2026: 47,095 euros
2021–2024:
Project leader: Prof. Dr Vera Luthardt
Duration and project budget: September 2021 – December 2024: 51,259 euros

As a general principle, every peatland that is (re)wetted makes an important contribution to the protection of peatlands and their unique flora and fauna. Moreover, every wet peatland actively contributes to climate protection.
