As a University of Applied Sciences, HNEE is an important regional hub, a connector of processes, and a driver of innovation for sustainable, practical model solutions that make a difference both locally and internationally. Around 2,300 students from approximately 60 nations study here, and more than 400 staff members teach, research, and work at this traditional campus university. Our students develop and test solutions for effective sustainable transformation during their studies,working closely with practical partners. HNEE is an experimental site and an award-winning learning centre for Education for Sustainable Development, having received the “National Award for Education for Sustainable Development 2021/22.”
With a strong practical focus, plenty of freedom to shape their own path, and excellent career prospects, HNEE offers an exciting range of study programmes oriented towards future-relevant topics, including nature conservation, forestry, organic farming, sustainable business, timber construction, sustainable tourism management, and climate change adaptationn.

Your future at HNEE - Why it's worth it.
HNEE is a state university and therefore part of the public service. Alongside a wide range of opportunities and career prospects, we primarily offer a secure job. Remuneration is in accordance with the → Collective Labour Agreement of the Federal States (TV-L). Information about the relevant pay group can be found in our → job vacancies. In addition to an annual special payment, public sector employees benefit from an additional pension scheme through the Federal and States’ Pension Institution (VBL).
HNEE provides a tax-free subsidy for the VBB company ticket and the Deutschlandticket Job, enabling you to use local public transport within the Berlin-Brandenburg transport network at a reduced rate.
Our architecturally diverse and green → City Campus, located in the city centre, is situated very close to Eberswalde Central Station and can be reached on foot within 15 minutes or by bus in 5 minutes. The → Forest Campus on Alfred-Möller-Straße, home to key HNEE partners such as the → Landesbetrieb Forst Brandenburg (LFB), the → Materialprüfanstalt Brandenburg GmbH, and the → Institute of Forest Ecosystems of the Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute, is also within a 15-minute walk. Sports enthusiasts will appreciate the extensive sports and leisure facilities. Our → Forest Botanical Garden, a central part of HNEE, is used for teaching and research, and is also an excellent spot for relaxation, events, and concecerts.
At HNEE, staff have extensive opportunities to actively shape the development of the university through committees and working groups. They are given considerable freedom when establishing new areas of work and further developing their own responsibilities.
At HNEE, healthy working and studying conditions for staff and students are actively promoted. You can benefit from offerings such as psychological counselling, study coaching, massage services, flu vaccinations, and much more. For short breaks or moments of relaxation, a dedicated health room is available to all university members. We regularly and actively participate in regional events such as the → Eberswalde City Run. You will also enjoy our → university sports programmes.

HNEE offers various working hour models that can be used under certain conditions and supports its employees with family-friendly and flexible working times. Our agreement on mobile working also enables employees to work from a flexible location.
We see it as a given to provide a needs-based training and development programme for our employees. Our offerings are regularly reviewed and continuously improved. Starting with a welcome programme for newly appointed and new employees, we regularly offer in-house training sessions, team events, and comprehensive annual reviews. Additionally, we support employees with individual training requests.

Play areas in the cafeterias on both the City and Forest Campus help ensure a relaxed lunchtime for families.
As the name suggests, the town of Eberswalde, with a population of just under 42,000, is surrounded by vast forests and numerous lakes in the Brandenburg region. It is located only 30 minutes by train from Berlin. In addition to being a forest town, → Eberswalde is also a vibrant and liveable university town. Its closeness to nature and wide range of cultural attractions contribute to a high quality of life.
