Equal parenting is often considered a matter of course in academia and among researchers. However, the data tell a different story. Balancing care work, paid employment, and the mental load associated with both family life and professional responsibilities can push parents to their limits. There is a lack of established role models and still relatively few concrete recommendations for action. This workshop is aimed at parents working in academia, particularly PhD candidates, postdocs, and professors.
The aim of the workshop is to raise awareness and thereby create a foundation for more equal parenting. To this end, we will introduce concepts of equal parenting, make the distribution of care work within couples visible, and then explore practical tools for negotiating and sharing responsibilities.
