New textbook "Grundwissen Maschinenkunde" published

The textbook Grundwissen Maschinenkunde by Prof Dr Thomas Böhme, Professor of Mechanical Engineering Fundamentals at the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNEE), has been published by Hanser-Verlag. It explains the structure, function and mode of operation of central machine elements as well as their dimensioning and design in a clear and structured manner. The necessary calculation equations are derived step by step and explained in a comprehensible manner.

The work also contains practical chapters on project and quality management, metallic materials science and the basics of technical drawings. This makes it a compact and versatile companion for study and work.

The machine elements covered include

  • Springs
  • Axles and shafts
  • Connecting elements and techniques (rivets, pins, welded and bolted connections, shaft-hub connections)
  • Guides and bearings (linear guides, plain and roller bearings, elastomer bearings)
  • Couplings and brakes

The textbook is aimed at students of technical subjects who wish to acquire basic knowledge of machine elements without having to complete a full degree in mechanical engineering. It is also suitable for development and design departments as a practice-orientated reference work in everyday working life.
