Conserving Biodiversity and Valuing Ecosystem Services through Rewilding – Learning from the Oder Delta

The REWILD_DE research project is investigating the concept of rewilding in the Oder Delta, the only rewilding area in Germany.

The project team is addressing the following questions and using the findings to develop practical solutions: What can rewilding do to conserve and restore biodiversity? What ecosystem services does it provide for the regional economy and society? How does rewilding affect the region, and how can the findings be applied to nature conservation across Germany?

The region around the Szczecin Lagoon is intended to benefit from the biodiversity and ecosystem services provided through rewilding. To this end, we are also developing the “Rewilding Dialogue” with the local community. Public engagement and collaboration between art and nature are intended to foster appreciation. Representatives of key regional stakeholders have been recruited to serve on an advisory board accompanying the project.
