Leveraging recent developments in monitoring and AI to develop dynamic ecological-economic Models for Adaptive biodiversity conservation policy instruments (Model2Adapt)
Research project
01/2026 - 12/2027
Competence field:Ecology, Sustainable ecosystem management, Sustainability in decision-making processes and accountability structures
Cooperation:Strategic cooperation
Funding partner:State funding
The DFG Research Network Model2Adapt brings together 13 scientists from different disciplines (ecology, nature conservation, grassland science, economics, artificial intelligence, remote sensing, etc.) from nine scientific institutions and universities (BTU Cottbus, Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ, University of Bonn, among others). By doing so, it combines state-of-the-art biodiversity monitoring, artificial intelligence, and ecological-economic modelling to develop innovative conservation instruments.
By integrating remote sensing and continuous data streams, the project aims to bridge the gap between economic research and data-driven conservation. As a case study, a concept for condition-based conservation of meadow-breeding birds will be developed. In three structured workshops, the potential of state-dependent ecological-economic models will be discussed, and joint scientific positions and proposals will be developed and published.
