Wood Aging Visualization and Estimation – WAVE

Duration:

02/2025 - 08/2027

Project volume:

169.984 EURO

Competence field:

Wood as a raw material, Timber construction

Cooperation:

Strategic cooperation

Funding partner:

Federal funding, EU funding

The project investigates dose-dependent colour changes in wood. Machine learning (ML) models are developed, trained, and optimised using a range of artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms. The aim is to enable accurate predictions and analysis of wood ageing processes based on empirical research datasets, generating robust and reliable results.

Project leader:

February 2025 to September 2025: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Alexander Pfriem

October 2025 to August 2027: Prof. Dr Tobias Cremer

Through this project, we are bringing research and practice together to not only deepen our understanding of wood as a sustainable building material, but also to optimise its use in a digitalised world.
