BRI: Publication on transformative sustainability education

Jana Gengelbach and members of the TRANSECTS network published a specialist article highlighting the value of an intercultural network of researchers, students and practitioners who jointly develop and implement transdisciplinary learning opportunities in the field of sustainability.

The Transdisciplinary Education Collaboration for Transformations in Sustainability (TRANSECTS) is a North-South partnership with hub universities in Canada, Germany and South Africa, and organiser of the Transdisciplinary International Learning Labs (TILLs) in biosphere reserves and other regions. This article describes initial findings from the collaboration across national and disciplinary boundaries and explains how TILLs contribute to single, double and triple loop learning processes among students, scientists and practitioners.

Jana Gengelbach is TRANSECTS coordinator at the German hub and is currently working on her PhD at the BRI.
