The Digital Forest Lab Haselberg is a virtual learning and teaching environment centred on a forest ecosystem, combining theoretical and practical content in an innovative way.
With financial support from the Erich Schmidt Sattelmühle Foundation, four hectares of woodland are being developed into a virtual learning and teaching environment for forward-looking, innovative research and teaching.
The Digital Forest Lab Haselberg is being established as a virtual and interactive teaching and learning environment on the World Wide Web. It is based on a forest area east of Eberswalde with diverse site characteristics. The area offers numerous digital and analogue opportunities to present the local forest ecosystem across its ecological and economic dimensions. Virtual forest tours are being developed and combined with on-site data collection using data loggers and dendrometers, enabling students to gain an immersive understanding of the forest ecosystem. Students can deepen their knowledge through research projects. The forest tours are organised around subject-specific aspects of the forest ecosystem, such as ecology, silviculture and timber harvesting. They offer numerous opportunities to learn about forests in this part of the world and to explore them virtually.
