Optimisation of the Forest-to-Factory Timber Supply Chain – Analysis, Evaluation and Further Development of Roundwood Measurement Methods and Logistics Processes in the Raw Timber Trade

Research project

Duration:

06/2019 - 08/2022

Project volume:

255.016 EURO

Competence field:

Sustainable forest management, Wood as a raw material

Funding partner:

State funding

One of the project’s main focuses was the modelling and simulation of roundwood stacks and their properties. On this basis, relevant parameters influencing the conversion factors from stacked volume to solid wood volume were analysed. This makes it possible to revise existing, relatively rough conversion factors and adapt them more easily to actual conditions. Furthermore, based on bark analyses of pine logs, a simple guide was developed for the practical estimation of the proportion of bark in roundwood stacks.
