The planned project aims to further develop organic farming in general, and poultry farming in particular, as a particularly resource-efficient and environmentally sustainable form of agriculture. On the one hand, it will examine the extent to which lower nutrient requirements and reduced nutrient density can be used to realise the feed intake potential of lower-performing or conventional animals. On the other hand, it will investigate opportunities to avoid further losses in the agricultural material flow through the reduced ration, significantly reduce or substitute resource-sensitive feed components, and minimise the associated negative environmental impacts.

The focus is on assessing the potential of alternative protein sources at two levels: both in direct feeding in the protein-sensitive area of poultry nutrition and in the upstream production of animal protein components for poultry feed.
