The agricultural and forestry sectors are facing major challenges. As a result, farms, together with businesses along the value chains, for example, need to develop, test and scale up innovative solutions. In this context, the concept of cooperation for innovation is regarded as a promising approach in which the partners work as equals and pool their expertise and resources to develop the necessary adaptations. The first step in the collaboration of such an innovation partnership is the development of an innovation project. PREMIERE – Preparing Multi-Actor Projects in a Co-Creative Way – provides support during this early phase of co-innovation. Experience has shown that, right from the beginning of their collaboration, innovation partnerships need to align the complementary skills of their members effectively. They not only need to carefully develop formal agreements and prepare the application for a collaborative project; they also need to build trust and strengthen their commitment to working together over several years.

Cooperation for innovation begins at the application planning stage; otherwise, those responsible for addressing practical challenges relating to climate adaptation or animal welfare can quickly become frustrated and withdraw from an innovation project.
