The project Management and Biomass Utilisation of Wet Fens: A Network of Model and Demonstration Projects in Brandenburg’s Peatland Regions (WetNetBB) will work with agricultural businesses at typical fen sites to maintain peat-preserving water levels and demonstrate methods for land management and biomass utilisation. The project aims to demonstrate the unique synergies offered by peatlands for climate, soil, water and biodiversity protection, as well as for regional value creation, thereby fostering acceptance of and interest in sustainable peatland use in the selected regions and beyond.
As part of the research consortium comprising the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy (ATB), the Brandenburg State Office for the Environment (LfU), the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) and the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), HNEE is involved in knowledge transfer and public engagement, as well as ecological monitoring as part of the scientific support.

As an overarching project, PaludiZentrale coordinates four pilot and demonstration projects on peatland conservation and the utilisation of biomass from rewetted areas, which began in October 2023. It is jointly led by the Thünen Institute in Braunschweig and the University of Greifswald, with the participation of the Michael Succow Foundation.
