The project aims to establish a long-term research and teaching partnership between the University for Sustainable Development Eberswalde (HNEE) and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) in Egypt. It focuses on a comparative analysis of strategies for preserving and communicating natural and cultural heritage in river landscapes in Germany and Egypt, with particular emphasis on architectural heritage and local ecological knowledge. Through joint field research in the Spreewald and Elbe-Brandenburg River Landscape Biosphere Reserves in Germany and the Egyptian cities of Esna and Aswan, the project explores local perspectives on heritage management, water resources, ecological change, and the role of tourism. By fostering transdisciplinary collaboration among researchers, students, and local practitioners, the project promotes intercultural dialogue, develops shared research questions and teaching materials, and lays the foundation for sustainable German-Egyptian cooperation.
