Site-Specific Forest Management in Small Private Woodlands: Climate – Nutrients – Water Balance; Sub-Project 5: Extended Site Information for Brandenburg

As part of the FNR-funded collaborative project Site-Specific Forest Management in Small Private Woodlands (StWM-KPW), practical site information systems were developed.

These systems are designed to support owners of small private woodlands in managing their forests in a resource-efficient manner, selecting tree species and assessing risks associated with climate change. The sub-project Extended Site Information for Brandenburg developed a comprehensive information system based on a 100-metre grid covering the entire forested area of Brandenburg.

In addition to the digital component – a map app for tablets and smartphones – a printed site guide is being produced. It is aimed at all members of the public with an interest in forests.

The guide provides a clear introduction to soil formation, soil types and the relationship between site conditions and forest vitality. It complements the app with background information and thereby supports an understanding of the site-specific climate and soil data available in the field, as well as the recommendations for forest management based on these data.
