Value chains for organic food often develop from niche markets, with the businesses, companies and initiatives involved in the chain growing into medium-sized economic structures. In the organic food sector, product qualities based on values are of central importance to the products’ sales potential. Examples of such values include a commitment to nature conservation, regionality and fair prices for producers.

The aim of the HealthyGrowth project is to analyse growth processes in the organic food sector. The project examines how growth beyond the niche can be achieved without losing these specific values. In addition to product-related values, the project also addresses those that shape social relationships along the value chain: trust and transparency. The project develops recommendations for action for practitioners and policymakers.

Through its implementation, the project contributed to HNEE’s sustainability principles, which advocate for healthy growth while taking ecological and social systems into account.
